Bracknell Masters Meet
As far as the COSC Masters swimmers were concerned, there was something for everyone this past weekend at the Bracknell Masters Meet with all six swimmers who made the trip to Berkshire returning with at least one medal each for their exertions.
Zsuzsanna Felvegi led the way with double gold in the 30-34 years 100m and 200m freestyle (1.09.47 and 2.33.29), supplemented by three silver medals (50m freestyle, 31.30; 50m butterfly, 33.79 and 100m butterfly, 1.16.81).
Other winners were Matthew Gomez who took the gold in the 45-49 age group 100m butterfly (1.09.58) and Barbara Kolbert in the 60-64 years 100m breaststroke (1.59.34). Matthew also claimed a silver in the 100m breaststroke (1.18.09) with Barbara finishing runner-up in the 50m breaststroke (53.76) and third in the 50m freestyle (44.86).
Simon Joyce returned with a pair of silvers in the 30-34 years backstroke events (1.09.61 in the 100m and 2.29.01 in the 200m).
After his recent angling exploits (http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/8877084.ANGLING__Deeley_cracks_30_pound_barrier/), Eamonn Deeley had an equally tiring day for his first competitive outing in around 20 years. As well as dipping under the 30 second mark in the 50m freestyle, Eamonn was rewarded with bronzes in the 35-39 years 50m and 200m breaststroke (38.42 and 3.04.31).
Alan Beggs also had his fair share of events throughout the day and claimed a bronze in the 45-49 years 100m backstroke (1.49.98).
Despite only having six swimmers at the meet and not fielding a single relay team, the club still managed a top ten finish in the overall club standings at what is one of the year’s most popular meets on the Masters ‘circuit’. Full results are now on our website (under ‘Meet Info’).
RLSS Poole Lifeguard Brownsea Island Swim Now Full
Finally, if you had been interested in entering the RLSS Poole Lifeguard Brownsea Island swim in July as mentioned in my email last week, but haven’t entered yet, you might be disappointed. As of Sunday, the event website was saying that entries are now only being taken for the reserve list. Seemingly, all 200 places have been filled in a matter of days.
